The Portland Trail Blazers official website broke the story Wednesday night that the Blazers had officially found the franchise's new head coach: Nate McMillan.

Considered to be a huge long shot, the Blazers have apparently beaten the odds and will name McMillan the head coach at a press conference at the Washington Park Amplitheater tomorrow.

McMillan known as Mr. Sonic for his 18 years as a player and coach for the only professional basketball team he ever came to know will move south down I-5 and coach a very young Trail Blazer team that is not expected to make the playoffs.

Why would Nate McMillan leave a franchise after 18 seasons and only a month and a half removed from a solid playoff run to coach a team that probably won't contend for a few more years? Money talks.

The Blazers reportedly were willing to offer as much as double the Seattle Supersonics contract offer to McMillan. The Blazers went as far as postponing the search until they had an opportunity to contact McMillan--the move apparently paid off.

McMillan comes to Portland sporting a 212-183 record in just under 5 seasons in Seattle. McMillan also sports an 8-8 post season record.

Contract terms were not disclosed.
