Trail Blazers fans didn't have to wait long for the first trade of draft day. The Trail Blazers dealt the third overall pick to the Utah Jazz in exchange for the sixth pick, 27th pick, and a future draft pick that will come via Detroit.
Steve Patterson had this to say on the Trail Blazers official website www.blazers.com:
"We were able to move down only three spots and gain two additional first round picks. This trade will allow us to continue doing what we started last year, stockpiling young talent. We had three first round picks last season, and have two first round selections this year and next, along with all of our second round picks. But we are not necessarily done making deals today."
The trade gives Portland extra assets in a deep draft while all but ensuring that the Blazers have targeted either Gerald Green or Martell Webster with their sixth pick.
This will mark the second year in a row that the Trail Blazers have had multiple first round draft picks. Last year the Trail Blazers had the 13th, 22nd and 23rd picks overall in which the team selected point guard Sebastian Telfair, forward Viktor Khyrapa, and guard Sergei Monya respectively.
Stay tuned, things are just starting to get interesting.
